Art meets fashion this month when the windows of Brown Thomas Cork are taken over by the works of contemporary Cork artists.
The thoughtfully curated window exhibition Art and Style will bring together a broad collection of original work representing mediums such as print, painting, video and photography. Comprising more than 30 pieces from nine Cork-based artists, all of whom were selected by Brown Thomas Creative Director John Redmond and young artist Stephen Morris, the Art & Style windows will be unveiled on Wednesday, May 11th 2012.
John Redmond told us:“Art & Style aims to draw attention to the vibrant arts scene that exists in Cork. Presenting works of art in a fashion environment and on this scale is new for us but we hope visitors to our store will find the exhibition refreshing and stimulating."
On Patrick Street, each artists will be assigned a window to frame their work for the duration of the exhibition. Artists featuring in Art & Style include Michael Gurhy, who graduated from London’s prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design and works through the medium of video, Mags Geany, who explores the role of fashion in our lives and the significance it brings to our identities and award-winning painter Raphael Llewellyn, whose work mediates between the interior and exterior and is inspired by ideas of time and transformation.
